Lucinda Monroe King
Vice President Public Relations
I am a Senior Art History and Studio Art Major at Occidental College and I enjoy playing Lacrosse, Horseback riding, singing, acting and reading fashion magazines. I pledged Theta fall of my sophomore year and it has been one of the most rewarding decisions I've made in college. Last year I acted as Small Philanthropy chair and this year I'm Vice President Public Relations, which allows me to plan incredibly fun philanthropy events such as the Annual Dodgeball Tournament, and act as the PR representative for Kappa Alpha Theta!

Teams coached by Thetas competed in a charity tournament. All proceeds went to CASA, our national philanthropy. Click here for more dodgeball pictures!
Our National Philanthropy
In 1989, Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity adopted National CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, as the fraternity’s official philanthropy. CASA volunteer advocates are trained volunteers appointed by a judge who speak on behalf of abused and neglected children in court. With the information provided by CASA volunteers, judges are able to make informed decisions as to what is best for the child foster care, reunification, or adoption.
CASA programs can help a displaced child find the security needed to grow and reach full potential. It's been shown that:
- Children who have been assigned CASA volunteers tend to spend less time in court and less time in foster care than those who do not have CASA representation.
- CASA advocated children have better chances of finding permanent homes.
- CASA cases are more likely to be reviewed on a regular basis by the court.
Local Theta organizations get involved with local CASA programs by raising money for CASA programs, providing office support, making toys or items for CASA children, hostessing events for CASA children or by becoming CASA volunteers themselves. Each year, Theta chapters all over the country raise tens of thousands of dollar for CASA.
