Patrick and Konstantin are working together
Mike’s community service day went very well and he received positive feedbacks from students that participated.
D. Campus Culture Update
Amy and Allison were absent setting up for the cooler project opening.
E. Scholastic Committee Update
Max had a bad new regarding his advisory committee. One of his members resigned and he doesn’t know if they have enough time to recruit another member. John is working on his articles to advertise library hours.
Matt informed senators that there is currently no election committee formed.
Kenna said that she needs people to help on the election committee. John and Caroline volunteered to help put the election together because they are seniors.
Matt read the list of ASOC achievements for this academic year to the senate and with the help of other senators some events that were left out were added.
III. Senate/GA Forum
A. General Comments
Jimmy was concerned about the annual dance “Sex on the beach” and all the controversies around it. He said that he understands that senate is working on a sexual assault free environment but changing the name of the dance will not necessary solve the problem. He wants to organize a dialogue to hear what students think about it. This can be brought to the GA meeting.
Caroline said that she agrees with any dialogue involving students about policies that affect them. Kenna said that the administration is ready to work with the students on these issues. She spoke to Katie about it and they will figure out when will be the best day for this dialogue.
Rozell said that if they will hold a dialogue in the quad it will be a good idea to address the issue of Pauley dorm and all the tension surrounding it.
Jimmy said that it might go out of control in the quad and doesn’t think it will be the best place. Katie was concerned about who will hold the event. The senate or the GA.. Matt said that because they just approved a new bylaw, it is the best time to make use of it. Jimmy should hold a resolution.
Kenna said that the cooler is opening tonight at 11h30pm and there will be In and Out truck for the quick off event and Amy and Allison have been working really hard on this project.
Matt reminded everyone that the meeting started late and the senate made a commitment to arrive on time.
Review of the Survey “Occidental Campus Survey Regarding the Standards of WASC Accreditation”
Max asked Matt to explain WASC. Kenna said that it is the Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges and they are in charge of examining if schools are meeting the standards of education.
Matt explained that the survey is not to ruin the school’s national reputation but to learn how every thing is working internally. Kenna said that this is only a part of the process there are other steps involving outside people that come in to help in improving specific areas that the college needs to improve.
Matt will like to have reviews on the structures of senate committees. The first committee is the public relations and finance committee to have a defined role for next year’s board.
IV. Adjournment @ 8:18pm
