Ex Oficio: Kenna Cottrill, advisor

Guests:  Ken Smutny

Called to order at 7:05 PM by Matt Kuzio, ASOC President.

Budget Discussion:

·        Distinction made between Senate Discretionary Fund and Club Allocation.  Senate Discretionary fund is for larger events while the Club Allocation fund is for events for club members.  There is also a Club Sports fund that only Club Sports can use.

·        Allocations are at about 35% of total funds, as per the Constitution.

·        Some numbers are missing.  These numbers are 0, but the lines are not deleted from the budget.

·        Concern about the La Encina yearbook budget.  Senate would like to see the budget and find out how the budget can be decreased.  Yearbook is only 170 pages and is not included in tuition.  Yearbook staff is working on selling more books and making the books less expensive.

Move to approve the budget by Teddy Zou, Campus Wide Senator.  Seconded by Amy Laslett.

Budget PASSED: 8-0-0.

Other Topics:

·        Ken Smutny: concern about parties and events not being allowed on weekdays.  If clubs cannot have parties on weekdays, then only departments like Office of Student Life can plan social events on the weekdays.  He would like help in exploring this issue.  Concern noted, but Senate is not yet prepared to address the concern but could do so after training.

·        Board of Trustee interviews should be professional and prepared.  Matt reminded Senators that this is the first time they will be representing the Senate, so a good impression is very important.  Candidates may be offered other Board of Trustee committees, and asking candidates if they would be interested in other committees.

·        Off-Campus Study Committee Student Representative would be chosen by Senate by October 13.  Also, representatives need to be chosen for the Dean of the College and Presidential Advisory Committees, which would be completed by Senate and the GA.

Meeting adjourned at 7:17 PM by Matt Kuzio.
