About ASOC

ASOC is for the students!  Every student paying student fees is a member of the ASOC.  ASOC is governed by the Senate, General Assembly, Honor Board.  Additionally, ASOC offers Oxy students services through the Student Services of the Student Activities Center, the La Encina yearbook, Bengal Bus, The Occidental Agency, Programming Board, Programming Board Tech, the Occidental Weekly newspaper, and KOXY radio station. 

Our Mission

Article II of the ASOC Constitution states: "The ASOC, the student government of Occidental College, exists to further the Mission of Occidental College, to be the voice of the student body, to provide student services, to create an air of cooperation and freedom of thought and speech, and to further an open and civil dialogue in support of each student's experience of a liberal arts education.  The ASOC openly discusses, supports, and organizes activities to enhance educational, recreational, social, and general welfare of its student members and their community.  ASOC protects and advocates for student interests by providing a unified voice, taking action and holding itself accountable to the student body.  Furthermore, in order to guarantee equal rights to all of its members, the ASOC will afford equal opportunities to all students without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, faith, age, nationality, pregnancy, economic class, political affiliation, or other differentiations." 

Purpose of Senate

The object and purpose of the Senate shall be to serve as a voice for the student body, support students and their activities, identify and act on student needs, approve funding for recognized clubs and organizations, act upon legislation proposed by the General Assembly, and approve an annual budget for the Student Services.

Purpose of General Assembly

The object and purpose of the Assembly shall be to address the interests and concerns of Occidental College students by direct student representation in the creation of legislation and committees to further those interests.

 

Purpose of Honor Board

The Honor Board shall be responsible for upholding and propagating the Honor Code, which states in Article V, Section 3A of the Constitution: “No student shall take unfair advantage of another student or another member of the Occidental Community.”
