 Funding Priorities

ASOC funding exists to create meaningful opportunities for the Occidental College community. For this reason, funding allocations are prioritized based on the following event criteria and weighted in the priority listed below:

1.         On-Campus Event

2.         Club Co-Sponsorship:  A Co-sponsored event is defined as the genuine and publicly acknowledged collaboration of (2)or more clubs, each making significant financial, logistical, or set-up and planning contributions to the creation of an event or program

3.         Community Service/Cultural/Education Events

A community service event is defined as the projects or endeavors undertaken by a club/organization which results in the quantifiable gain or intangible relief, satisfaction, and/or beneficial experience of an unaffiliated third party.

*Following our Mid-Year Senate training day, all senators expressed a need for increased financial support of “Service” related events.  Thus, a general consensus emerged to boost funding for “Service” events through current mechanisms within the ASOC algorithm.  The below alterations to FPRC “Service Events” policy are the product of a collective desire to promote off-campus philanthropy.

 a. All events which meet the “Service” qualifications as prescribed by the ASOC Funding Guidelines shall receive “On Campus” designation irrespective of individual event description.

b. All “Service” events shall be considered for on-campus and third party “peripheral attendance” if demonstrable actions indicate said parties benefits from the proposed event.

A cultural event is defined as the conscionable representation of a culture or cultural practice which effectively conveys at least one aspect of identity or heritage to persons in attendance

An educational event is defined as the presentation of an academic or social issue relevant to the student body and Occidental Community.

4.         Projected Attendance

5.         Events open and publicized to all students

An open event is considered such when the proposed event can reasonably accommodate an indefinite number of students without any constraints to accessibility.  ASOC Senate recommends that open and advertised events make use of available publicity tools such as but not limited to OxyDigest, The Occidental Agency (TOA), and Resident Life.
