Environmental Club
To educate and involve the Occidental community about environmental issues and to create environmental awareness and consciousness on campus.
Gender Equity At Oxy
1. To
establish a broad constituency to work in pursuit of feminist ideals --
social, political, and economic equality for women and men, girls and boys.
2. To study and take action on national, campus, and local feminist issues
and concerns.
3. To provide leadership and career building opportunities for feminist
students.
4. To educate the college/university community about feminist issues.
5. To enhance feminist community on campus.
Global Medical Relief Program Cooperative Student Organization
GlobeMed believes in the access to quality health care to be a basic human
right. We recognize the immense demands placed on the medical field around
the world as people across borders suffer from a lack of access to quality
health care at grave magnitudes. GlobeMed embodies compassion, humanity, and
philanthropy. Occidental College will participate as an affiliate of the
national organization based at Northwestern.
It is the mission of GlobeMed to:
-Promote quality health care in under-served communities around the world by
working with local doctors and health care professionals and providing them
with medical supplies and equipment.
-Provide basic dental, hygiene, and basic health care supplies in areas of
national disasters
-Participate in a global community of organizations which are similarly
dedicated to providing health care in developing regions.
-Provide toys and clothing to children shelters, refugee camps, and
orphanages
Human Rights & Film Club
The purpose of the HRFC is to bring human rights issues to the attention of the great Occidental community through film.
Libertarian Society of Occidental College
The Libertarian Society of Occidental College is an official Occidental Club dedicated to discussing and promoting Libertarian ideology. The Society prides itself on its open-minded and inclusive attitude and welcomes people of any political conviction. website
Mid. East Comprehension Club
Through artistic, cultural, and educational events we hope to promote political understanding between students in the US and the area of the world traditionally referred to as the 'Middle East'.
Occidental College Democrats
The
Occidental College Democrats pledges itself to promote progressive
values through education, to support all efforts to increase the
participation of college students in political affairs, and to address
the philosophy and ideals of the Democratic Party. To these ends, the
Occidental College Democrats shall seek to educate, activate, and
support its members, enabling them:
1. To promote student awareness regarding political and social
issues.
2. To advance and articulate intelligent political and social
dialogue on campus.
3. To participate in progressive political change on the local,
state, and national level.
4. To communicate the philosophies of the Democratic Party.
5. To encourage solidarity amongst progressive student groups on
campus.
6. To foster and articulate intelligent political debate on campus.
Occidental College Republicans
The purpose of the Occidental College Republicans is to make known and promote the principles of the Republican Party among students at Occidental College and the community at large, to recruit Occidental College students as members of the club and as members of the Republican Party, to aid in the election of Republican candidates at all levels of government, and to develop political skills and leadership abilities among Republican students as preparation for future service by them to the party and community.
OxyConscious
To provide information to the students of
Occidental College to raise and encourage political awareness.
To provide a venue and/or modes of transportation for political
expression off-campus.
To encourage communication about social issues by providing political
forums and other events to the student body.
TENTATIVE MISSION STATEMENT:
OxyConscious Mission Statement
We, the members of OxyConscious, are dedicated to working towards a more tolerant, aware and socially progressive society on many levels—individual, local, national and global. We seek to educate ourselves and heighten our personal awareness of social justice issues as a first step towards change. We plan to then take this knowledge and apply it in our community, on the basis that the most powerful change begins locally with compassion, action and communication. In addition, we believe that combining our efforts with social justice groups on our campus and across the country will make us a more powerful force in influencing domestic and foreign policy.
Our central goals are as follows:
• To have an open-minded approach to which issues we discuss/take action on.
• To combat sexism, racism, heterosexism, homophobia, intolerance and oppression, which OxyConscious will not tolerate within/in relation to the group or at group-sponsored events.
• To raise awareness and consciousness of injustices
• To be involved in our local community (Eagle Rock)
• To combine any charitable acts we may perform with efforts for more permanent social change
• To network with other progressive groups on campus in order to be a more powerful voice within the Occidental College community.
Roosevelt Institution
The purpose of the organization is to bring student ideas into the public discourse, and in the process build skills and networks that will make us more effective change agents upon leaving the university. The organization will accomplish this goal with a collection of policy centers, which generate policy ideas; a collection of administrative committees which provide administrative support to the centers; an executive committee which oversees day-to-day operations; and a board of directors which provides broad oversight of the organization.
