Adopted Ties
Our mission is to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere on campus where adoptees, and those interested in adoption, can converse on issues of adoption; issues include personal experiences with adoption, religion, women's rights, abortion, same sex parents, family structure, multiracial families; to raise awareness of adoption on campus; to encourage people to talk about adoption; to network with other multicultural groups; to make connections with area groups (off-campus).
AIDS Walk LA Oxy Tigers
To increase awareness of HIV/AIDS and raise funds for AIDS research and services in Los Angeles by participating in the Los Angeles AIDS Walk.
Amnesty International
Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights. Amnesty International is independent of any government, political ideology or religious creed. It does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.
Promoting Achievement for Underrepresented Students
P.A.U.S. is an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for Occidental students to mentor high school students from the surrounding community. Through an interactive program that promotes college awareness, underrepresented youth will receive guidance as well as experience in a college setting.
Rotaract
To actively promote and participate in outreach and service within the Occidental family and to take advantage of the diverse learning community fostered therein. Also, to reach out in dedicated service to the immediate and localized surroundings of Oxy in order to create on ongoing dialogue of aid, friendship and embracement of multiculturalism in efforts to promote the well being and betterment of the community as a whole. Finally to extend our service on an international level in order to promote social justice, consciousness-raising, and general embetterment for those most in need in the spirit of humanitarian and altruistic outreach.
Sons and Brothers
An organization of men (a male focused group) working to spread knowledge and awareness regarding sexual assault, sexual battery and rape in an effort to create a safe, equitable society that is supportive of survivors and eventually free of these crimes.
Students Taking on Poverty
Students Taking On Poverty dedicates itself to campaigning for and raising awareness of issues related to domestic and international poverty. The club works to change the policies of Occidental College, the State of California, and the United States of America to better help people in need. The club also seeks to help people, and especially students at Occidental, become more aware of poverty and issues related to poverty.
Women & Youth Supporting Each Other (WYSE)
The mission of WYSE is
to provide middle and high school girls with the resources and support
necessary to make informed decisions about relationships, sexuality,
their futures and to create community change. Our goals include,
1. Providing college women with the skills and insights necessary
to become life-changing mentors and advocates for expanding
opportunities for women and girls; and
2. A national network of support and friendship as women and girls
organize to create positive change in all our nation's communities.
